As part of its ongoing commitment to fostering interdisciplinary research and collaboration, the HELIOS – MSCA Doctoral Network was represented at the 19th Society and Materials (SAM19) Conference, held on 6–7th May 2025 in Alcalá de Henares, Madrid, Spain.
HELIOS researcher Rim Boulahya and Ekinsu Akdoğan, a fellow team member from the SAM research group at KU Leuven, attended the conference. SAM19 provided an excellent platform for exchanging ideas and engaging in meaningful dialogue with researchers, organisers, and keynote speakers from across Europe and beyond.
Participants had the opportunity to attend a wide range of presentations and explore diverse approaches to the circular economy, including innovative strategies for addressing shared challenges in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). These discussions highlighted the rich interdisciplinary nature of sustainability research and its growing relevance within both academic and industrial spheres.
The HELIOS team expressed enthusiasm about the insights gained and the collaborative opportunities ahead, and they are already looking forward to contributing to the next edition of the conference, SAM20.
