From 9 to 11 April 2024, the HELIOS MSCA Doctoral Network was represented at the 9th International Slag Valorisation Symposium (SVS9) held in Leuven, Belgium. Rim Boulahya, a doctoral researcher from the SAM (Sustainable Materials) research group at KU Leuven, participated in the event, presenting a poster on an ongoing study conducted within the framework of the HELIOS project.
The research focused on developing a framework for assessing emergent technologies in steel production, with particular emphasis on sustainability and slag valorisation. This work forms a key component of HELIOS’s broader goal to advance low-carbon, circular steelmaking pathways by integrating interdisciplinary academic and industrial expertise.
Participation in SVS9 provided an opportunity for the HELIOS project to engage with a wide network of professionals and stakeholders from across the steel industry. The symposium hosted numerous companies and research institutions focused on slag valorisation, offering valuable insights into current innovations and collaborative possibilities within the sector.
Through such dissemination and networking activities, HELIOS continues to contribute to the European Green Deal’s objectives by promoting innovation, circularity, and decarbonisation in heavy industries.
