Doctoral Network on the adoption of Hydrogen mEtalLurgy In the climate-neutral production Of Steel - HELIOS

HELIOS Boot Camp in Luleå, Sweden and Oulu, Finland

🌍 Last week, the HELIOS – MSCA DN Doctoral Network held an exciting and impactful network-wide Boot Camp event across Luleå, Sweden 🇸🇪 and Oulu, Finland 🇫🇮.

Over the course of several days, researchers, supervisors, and partners gathered to collaborate, exchange ideas, and strengthen the scientific and personal connections that drive the HELIOS project forward. From in‑depth research presentations and technical workshops to site visits and social activities, the event highlighted the international and interdisciplinary spirit at the heart of our network.

Highlights included technical workshops, research presentations, and site visits to leading industrial partners:

🏭 HYBRIT, a pioneer in fossil-free steel innovation, and
🔬 Swerim AB, a key research institute supporting industrial transformation.

These visits offered valuable insights into real-world applications of green technologies and strengthened the connection between research and practice.
Huge thanks to our hosts University of Oulu for facilitating such a rich and engaging programme.

We’re proud to be part of a network that’s not only pushing the boundaries of technology, but also cultivating the talent needed to shape a sustainable future in steelmaking.

The future of steel is green – and the HELIOS network is helping to build it.
